1. Understand the Core Elements of a Future Type Beat
Future type beats typically fuse melodic synths and keys with trap-style drums and deep 808 bass. These beats often use minor keys to evoke a moody or sad atmosphere, aligning with the emotional tone common in Future's music. The tempo usually ranges between 90 and 100 BPM, creating a laid-back but rhythmic feel.
2. Crafting the Melody
The melody is central to future type beats, often featuring atmospheric synths, pads, or piano lines that carry an emotional weight. Melodic future type beats, like "Miles Away," emphasize smooth, flowing chord progressions in keys such as G minor. Experimenting with minor scales and layering multiple melodic elements can add a rich texture.
3. Designing Drums and Percussion
Trap-influenced drums are a staple, including crisp hi-hats with rolls, snappy snares, and punchy kicks. The hard future type beats add aggressive drum patterns, while sad future beats may opt for a more subdued approach. Using 808-style bass kicks that glide or slide under the beat is crucial to achieving that signature sound.
4. Bass and 808 Integration
808 basslines drive the energy of future type beats. They are often tuned to match the key of the melody (G minor in "Miles Away") and use pitch bends or slides for extra expressiveness. Balancing the 808 with the kick drum and ensuring it doesn't overpower other elements is key to a clean mix.
5. Mixing and Final Touches
A polished future type beat requires careful mixing to blend melodic and rhythmic elements seamlessly. Use EQ to carve space for each instrument, apply reverb and delay to create depth, and compress drums to maintain punchiness. Mastering should preserve dynamic range while enhancing loudness for commercial readiness.
